Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is the statutory body that appoints Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public who practise in Singapore.
SAL also provides authentication services for the signatures of Notaries Public appointed in Singapore by virtue of Rule 12 of the Singapore Academy of Law Rules.
From 20 January 2021, the legalisation function of outgoing public documents issued in Singapore and intended for use in States with legalisation requirements will be transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to SAL.
The Board of Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public, appointed by the SAL Senate, appoints eligible advocates and solicitors, public officers and court interpreters as Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public, twice a year.
